Andy Weir, the science fiction author behind bestsellers like The Martian and Project Hail Mary, recently shared his thoughts on what’s been holding Star Wars back—and he’s got ideas about how to fix it. While the excerpt doesn’t detail his specific criticism, Weir’s track record of hard sci-fi storytelling suggests he’s likely concerned with aspects many fans have debated: perhaps scientific rigor, character consistency, or narrative pacing in the expanded universe.

What makes this interesting for gaming fans is that Weir’s perspective could inform how future Star Wars games approach their storytelling. Games like the recent Jedi Survivor and the upcoming projects need strong narratives that resonate with both hardcore lore enthusiasts and casual players. If a creative mind like Weir’s were to pitch ideas to Lucasfilm, we might see that philosophy trickle down into gaming experiences that feel more grounded and thoughtfully constructed.

The franchise has been experimenting with different creative voices lately, and there’s real value in seeing what someone outside the traditional Star Wars bubble thinks needs improvement. Whether his pitch ever becomes reality or not, it’s a good reminder that fans—and creators—are actively engaged with making this galaxy better. For gamers, that kind of creative conversation often leads to more ambitious, well-crafted experiences down the line.
