After years of existing only in the Legends continuity, one of the most compelling characters from Star Wars expanded universe lore is officially making a comeback to canon. Mara Jade Skywalker—the Emperor’s Hand turned smuggler turned Jedi—is stepping out of the shadows and into the official storyline. This is huge for longtime fans who grew up with Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy and have been hoping to see her integrated into the modern Star Wars narrative.

For gamers specifically, this development opens up some tantalizing possibilities. Mara’s complex character—skilled in combat, espionage, and Force abilities—makes her perfect protagonist material for future Star Wars gaming projects. Imagine a stealth-action game following her early days as the Emperor’s personal assassin, or a story-driven adventure exploring her journey toward redemption and the light side. Her combat expertise and moral ambiguity could translate beautifully into interactive experiences that challenge players both strategically and ethically.

What makes this particularly exciting is how it signals Lucasfilm’s willingness to revisit beloved Legends material and give it new life within the official canon. This could pave the way for other fan-favorite characters and storylines to resurface in games, shows, and films. Whether we see Mara Jade appear in upcoming Star Wars gaming titles remains to be seen, but her official return absolutely increases the likelihood. For the gaming community, this feels like validation that the stories and characters we loved weren’t forgotten—they’re just waiting for their next chapter.
