Meanwhile, there’s a canceled project that fans have been clamoring for multiple times—one that represents the kind of bold, original storytelling the galaxy far, far away could really use right now.

The appeal of exploring untapped corners of the Star Wars universe shouldn’t be underestimated. Fans are hungry for stories that break away from the Skywalker legacy and dive into entirely new eras, characters, and conflicts. A project that never quite made it off the ground multiple times hints at what could have been a refreshing direction for the franchise—something different enough to capture imaginations while still honoring what makes Star Wars special.

For gaming fans specifically, this matters because our best Star Wars games have often thrived by expanding the lore rather than retreading familiar ground. Whether it’s exploring the Old Republic era, the Expanded Universe, or original time periods, the games that connect with us most are those willing to take creative risks. Returning to the Skywalker Saga feels like playing it safe when the franchise’s strength has always been its ability to tell stories across an entire galaxy. Here’s hoping future Star Wars projects—in games, film, and beyond—prioritize originality and ambition over nostalgia.

This post was inspired by reporting from ScreenRant – Star Wars.
